Phonics: Revisiting as needed in each class
Spelling:
You can help your child with spelling at home by practising the word lists below each lesson objective.
Lesson 1: Review single-syllable words ending with consonant digraphs
- off
- hill
- fizz
- buzz
- puck
- lick
- stuff
- mess
Lesson 2 Review adding -ed and -ing with no change to the root word.
Example:
- Play → Played, playing
- Need → Needed, needing
- Pick → Picked, picking
Lesson 3 Review spelling the /j/ sound using j and g.
Gem, giant, gym, age, giraffe, stingy, gentle, magic, spongy
Jog, jail, jam, ninja, jelly, jester
Writing
We will be revisiting the basics of sentence construction to help the children consolidate their understanding of how to use capital letters, full stops, finger spaces, exclamation marks and question marks correctly. We will edit sentences to ensure they make sense.
Here’s an example of a sentence we would ‘fix’.

Reading
We will continue our work based on ‘The Quangle Wangle’s Hat’.

Maths
In maths, we will be finishing off our learning about shape and carrying out assessments.
We will be creating patterns with shapes and sorting 3D shapes
We will then be starting our new multiplication and division unit – starting by recapping equal grouping from Year 1.

Wider Curriculum
Science: ‘Materials’: What are materials used for? Categorise and compare wood, metal, plastic and glass. We will also be identifying which materials are transparent, opaque and translucent.
PE: Gymnastics.
R+WV: How might it feel to be a prophet? Explored through the stories of Jonah and Muhammad
History: We will be learning about the history of space travel and will create a class timeline to kickstart our new unit. Over the next 2 terms we will learn about significant individuals within living memory linked to space travel like Mae Jemison and Tim Peake.
DT: We will be starting a new unit making a moving monster. This week we will be exploring pivots, levers and linkages.
