Year 2 – Term 2 Week 1

We have all had such a wonderful Term 1 getting to know our new classes. Thank you for all of your support and hard work at home to ensure the children settled into Year 2 quickly. We have really enjoyed seeing the children become more confident this term learning new rules and routines. We are looking forward to Term 2 with our classes and continuing our topic of Knights and Castles.

Week 1 Learning

English

Our focus for this week is to learn about the past and present tense and to use these tense consistently in our writing.

We will have two focused grammar lessons where we will learn to recognise the tenses and how to change verbs when we write in different tenses.

On Thursday the 5th we will be doing some cross curricular work with History, learning about the Gunpowder plot and writing about it in the past tense. We will also have a session writing about Bonfire Night in the present tense.

Maths

After half term we are going to be starting a 2 week block learning about money. Over the half term holiday, it would be great if you could support your child to identify coins and notes and use them to pay for items in real life situations. At school we are going to be looking at recognising coins/notes and knowing the value of different denominations. The children will be adding the value of coins/notes together to work out the total amount. We will be using the ‘p’ and ‘£’ signs.

There are two games you can play at home to help your child learn about money. Click here to play Coin Game. Click here to play Toy Shop Money.
