Noticeboard
- Please remember to send your child to school everyday with a coat. We go outside in all weathers.
- Click here to access the blog post about reading at Henleaze Infant School. We are inviting you to ask questions about this information between 3pm and 3:20pm on Tuesday 21st September. This session will take place on the Reception patio before you pick your child up.
- Please provide your child with a PE kit to keep on their peg by 1st October. We will be working indoors, so trainers are not needed until the summer terms.
- We are inviting children to send in a photo of themselves and their families to be part of a class display (see learning for Religion and Worldviews below).
Celebrations
It was wonderful to see the change of dynamics in the Reception classes when all the children met each other on Monday morning. Each class has enjoyed staying for lunch for one day this week and playing in the Reception playground at lunchtime. The children have been very busy making new friends and building relationships, as well as starting their phonics lessons. The children have now been taught the phonemes s, a, t and p. They have also been taking part in doing lots of counting.
This week’s learning
As our topic is the ELLI animals, we are continuing the Owl Babies story and thinking about ‘planning’.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
This week, we will be talking about different feelings and sharing ideas about what to do if you’re feeling sad.
Communication and Language
This week, the children will be learning lots of new vocabulary to describe owls, for example, owlets and talons. Alongside this, they will be engaging with and answering questions about story books they read in their class.
Physical Development
The children will be becoming more confident as they explore the patio, use the bikes, the basketball hoop, and climbing the mountain. There will be opportunities to develop fine motor skills as we paint, draw, and glue.
Literacy
This week, we will be recapping all phonemes (sounds) learnt last week. We will be teaching the children another 4 new sounds this week. These are i, n, m and d.
Mathematics
This week, the children will be learning about numbers 1-5 in depth. They will be challenged to find them in the environment (e.g. on a clock, on dice etc.). We will be using the resources around the classroom to find out about the different representations.
Understanding the World
We will continue to encourage children to talk about families and communities and support them to listen to each other. We will also be supporting children to use the vocabulary they have learnt to talk about owls and share knowledge.
Religion and Worldviews
Teachers will share a family photo, and invite children to send in their family photos to share on a class display (un-named).
Expressive Arts and Design
This week in Reception we will continue to make our Owls using a range of resources for our ELLI displays. We will also have lots of creative resources for the children to explore through the week, including painting, collage and a range of drawing utensils.
