Reception News – Term 2 Week 2

In Reception, it has been a busy week! As it has been friendship week, we have been talking about what it means to be a good friend. Each class has drawn around a child and written their ideas about how to be a good friend the figure. They have then signed it to agree to do these things in school, ensuring all children are good friends and have good friends too.

In phonics this week, we have been learning the phonemes l, ll, j and v and using them to blend CVC words. We have been learning to spell and write the common exception words taught so far; to, the, no, go, I. We have been reading full sentences with CVC and common exception words in. For example, I can go to the bus. As a whole class, we have been thinking about the sounds fireworks make and writing captions e.g. fizz, pop, bang!

In maths this week, we have continued to learn about number bonds to 5. The children have used fives frames and bingo dabbers to make their own number bonds and some children attempted to write numerals too! They have also explored the part-part whole model again and used their problem solving skills to fill in the missing parts to make five. For example, the whole is 5, one of the parts is 3, what is the other part?

All of the classes have also started to learn songs for the Christmas nativity too, we can’t get them out of our heads!!
