This week is Christmas week at school.

Don’t forget our Reception Performance is at 9:30am on Wednesday 7th December 

 Noticeboard

• Reception performance on Wednesday 7th – parents are welcome to come and watch the children perform at 9:30am. Please drop your child off in the classroom and come to the front of the school as we will be in the school hall.
• If your child is a narrator or has any words to say in our Reception play, please help them to learn them and say them in a loud voice at home. They were sent home on Monday along with the slip telling you what your child is going to be in the play. 
• We would like you to support your child to hold their pencil correctly when they are using them at home. Children should be using a tripod grip. Click here to see a BBC Bitesize video about how to hold a pencil.

Celebrations

This week, we have put up our Christmas trees and our new Christmas role play areas!

The children have practised the Reception performance this week, ready for next week! They have started to make Christmas cards and get into the festive spirit.

The focus this week is Understanding the World. 

The ELLI Spider shows us that being able to make connections in our learning is a valuable skill. Please take an observation of  a drawing or a spider, your child making connections or sharing what they know about spiders.

You can also send us any moments that you feel are significant in your child’s learning or want to share with your child’s class teachers.

This week’s learning:

This week, we will learn about the ELLI Spider. We will be using ‘Spinderella’ as our key text.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

This week, we will be thinking about how to be a kind friend.

Communication and Language

The children will be becoming familiar with the ‘Spinderella’ story.

Word of the week: Connections

Physical Development

The children will be learning actions for the Reception Performance and taking part in physical games.

Literacy

This week we will continue our phase 3 phonics and we will be learning to read words containing -ing endings. We will also be revisiting previous learnt digraphs to practice writing them in words and short sentences.

Writing: This week we will be drawing and writing about what we are doing over the Christmas holiday. 

Maths

The children will be learning about the properties of squares and rectangles. They will be identifying them from a group of shapes and noticing them in the environment. 

Understanding the World

We will be learning about facts about Spiders to compliment our ELLI learning skills of connecting ideas. Children will be sharing what they know about the jolly season.

Religion and Worldviews

Christmas in a box experience on Monday – The children will take part in an immersive lesson where they will learn about the Christmas story in a creative and fun way. 

Expressive Arts and Design

This week we will be designing a Christmas Stained glass calendar.
