Year 1 Learning Week 5, Term 2

Noticeboard

Please help us at home! This week we will be writing about our journey to school. This week as you travel (ideally actively!) to school please discuss with your child the main features of your journey to school. This might include road crossings, passing street signs, using zebra crossings or passing certain buildings. Thank you!

Christmas Parties Preparations – Sign up sheets for food donations will be put out on class patios on a clip board at drop off and pick up this coming week. The food will need to be brought in for our Christmas parties on the last day of term (Friday 15th December). Thank you

  • Wednesday 29th November – Eco Committee Members from each class – Planting Time with Mrs Grant. Could these children please bring in wellies and ensure they have waterproof coats.
  • Henleaze Christmas Fayre – Wednesday 6th December – This will be after school where members of the school choir will perform to open the event. If your child is involved, you should have already received an email and paper copy of the permission letter. Please make sure this is returned to your class teacher ASAP.
  • Henleaze Infants Christmas Carol Service – Thursday 7th December – St Peter’s Church – 2pm – All Welcome **Please email class emails if you are able to help walk us to the church and back.
  • Wednesday 13th December – Christmas Dinner
  • Friday 15th December – Christmas Parties and Last Day of Term – Wear your party clothes and/or a Christmas Jumper. Please bring food you signed up for on this day. Also please bring in a donation to FHIS.

Writing

This week we are going to be writing about our journeys to school (please see above how you can support with this).
1. Write adjectives and nouns linked to the 5 senses – what do you see, smell, hear and touch on your way to school?
2. Using our adjectives and nouns, write sequenced sentences about our journey to school using the words first, next, then and finally.

Maths

Mental/ oral warm-ups:

  • Recall of addition facts within 10
  • Recognise and write numbers to 20
  • 1 more and 1 less recall within 20

We will be finishing up our number work to 20 with addition and subtraction using a number line. We will also then be carrying out some informal assessment with the children.

SHINE Outside Session – Team Games

Real Dance- Explore and link silk moves with shapes and circles and create a repeatable sequence including all skills learnt so far.

R+WV- To think about how my family celebrates Christmas or other special celebrations. 

Geography/ Writing– To think about my journey to school and the things that I see. We will be creating maps of our route to school as well.

PSHE – What is bullying and how can I spot it?
