Term 1 week 8

Week 7 learning celebrations

We have loved seeing Class 7 back in school and so pleased they were able to join in with our fantastic science day! The children spent the day being materials explorers and following in the footsteps of Charles Macintosh by testing which materials were best suited for a water proof jacket. They then became engineers and designed and made boats, with the aim of them floating and holding weights. We loved testing the boats and seeing which designs worked the best and evaluating what worked and what we would have done differently.

Notices

  • The children in each class have been working towards earning their 50 marbles in a jar for a treat. The children have decided they want to watch a DVD and have some popcorn. We are going to have this treat on Thursday afternoon. Please let us know if you do not want your child to have popcorn. You can do this by emailing the class email address.
  • Reminder: INSET day on Friday 23rd October and Monday 2nd November. We will see you again after half term on Tuesday 3rd November for the start of Term 2.
  • Massive thank you to the families who have been buying things from our Amazon Wishlist. We really appreciate it.
  • FHIS Amazon Wishlist –As a year group we were asked to include items to the wish list. If you are shopping over the next week or so and are able to contribute that would be amazing. Thank you in advance. Click here to go to the Amazon Wishlist.

English

The children will be innovating our story The Egg with their own mythical creature they designed last week. They will decide which lessons their creature will need to be taught before writing their alternative version of The Egg.

In phonics, the children will look at the sounds i-e (like), o-e (spoke), u-e (cube) and practise using these in our reading and writing of words and then applying those words in sentences.

Maths

We are finishing our block of addition and subtraction this week. The children are going to be subtracting a 2 digit number from a 2 digit number crossing 10 e.g. 46 – 29. We are going to be using our knowledge of exchanging to find number bonds to 100 and adding three 1 digit numbers using our knowledge of number bonds to 10 e.g. 4 + 2 + 6 ….. 4 + 6 =10 + 2 = 12.

After half term we are going to be starting a block of multiplication and division. Over the half term holiday, please continue to count in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s and divide/share toys, food etc.

Topic

We are really looking forward to our homework sharing sessions this week. The children will have an opportunity to show their work to the rest of the class and with any quizzes we have received they will have a chance to test them out on each other!
