Year 2, Week 3

Celebrations:

What an amazing first week we have had in Year 2! We have been blown away by how well the children have settled into their new classes – Sycamore, Maple and Magnolia. All of the teachers are really excited for the year ahead and can’t wait to get to know you all more as the year goes on.

This week the children have revisited the ELLI animals and have created some beautiful pieces of artwork in the style of different artists. We are going to display these in the main hall. The children have loved exploring their new classrooms and engaging with new resources, displays and toys. The buzz of excitement in Year 2 at the moment is just wonderful. We are very excited to see you on Monday for our WOW Day.

Maths

In maths this week we will be continuing our work on place value within 100. The children will work in groups to create large-scale number lines on the floor using masking tape and paper. They will physically jump to and from 100 in intervals of 10. The children will use this physical activity to help them with their maths later in the week. They will be filling in missing numbers on number lines to 100 and challenging each other in pairs to estimate the position of numbers on blank number lines.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World (Topic)

Please remember that our WOW day is on Monday 12th September 2022. We are inviting the children to dress in clothes of the theme ‘Knights and Castles’. All details about our WOW day are at the top of this blog post.

Music

In music this week the children will listen to some medieval music. They will experiment with pitch, recognising and using their voices to create high and low sounds. They will also use actions to help indicate the pitch of pieces of music.

Religion and World Views

In R + WV the children will be learning about celebratory life milestones, working collaboratively in groups to discuss, sort and order pictures. We will begin to answer our key question ‘How do we celebrate our journey through life?’. We will explain the word celebration and explore the variety of ways in which different people mark special events in their lives. Some of these celebratory milestones will include: christenings/baby naming days, weddings, retirement, passing your driving test.

PSHE

In PSHE the children will be discussing back to school worries and how they can work together to alleviate these.
