English

Reading:

The children will be introduced to the ‘reading dogs’ this week including fun characters like Rex Retriever and Inference Iggy. They will help the children access more complex comprehension questions going forwards.

Writing:

In our writing this week we will be beginning a lovely block of poetry. The children will begin by learning about shape poetry, creating their own space poems! They will also be introduced to a gorgeous new text called ‘If All the World Were…’. Its a beautiful story about a girl’s special relationship with her Grandfather and it reads like an extended poem.

Maths

We will be starting a new unit of work this week on fractions! We will build on prior learning from Year 1 and recap the importance of equal parts and how to find one half and one quarter of a given quantity. We will also introduce the vocabulary ‘numerator and denominator’ and discuss their meaning in relation to the written fraction.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World (Topic)

This week in Science we will be looking at the difference between weather and climate. We will look at the different climates around the world and how this relates to the equator. Will will also be looking at the significant figure David Attenborough and what he has done for our planet.

We are going to be listening to a piece of music by a man called Edward Grieg, who lived just over 100 years ago. Grieg lived in Norway and was part of the Nationalistic movement of music that occurred during the Romantic period. This meant that his music had strong links with the traditions of his country.

Religion and World Views

Will be looking at the story of The Lost Sheep. Jesus did lots of teaching people about how God wants people to live. He often did this by telling stories about everyday things to help people remember them. A story like this, which has a special message, is called a parable.

PSHE

We will be looking at different ways to keep ourselves healthy and why it is so important. We will be discussing these questions; How do you keep yourself healthy? Why is it important to keep healthy? We will be looking at all these different aspects of being healthy.
