Year 1 Learning Week 8, Term 1

This week Year 1 will be visiting St Peter’s Church as part of our Religion and Worldviews curriculum. It is therefore especially important that children have coats in school for this. Thank you to parents that came forward to support us with this walk.

Upcoming Key Dates

English 

Revision on Phase 3 and 4 Phonics
Contractions e.g. I’ll (I will), didn’t (did not), we’re (we are), he’d (he had or he would)

Writing
This week we will be writing about our visit to St Peter’s Church

Handwriting
Now we have recapped on all our handwriting families, we will be beginning to write short captions and revising the spelling of our common exception words.

Maths   

This week we will be solving mathematical problems involving a mixture of addition and subtraction problems. We will continue to use ‘first’, ‘then’ and ‘now’ stories to help us do this.

Wider Curriculum

SHINE PE- Team games using taught footwork skills (side step, gallop, hop, skip)

Science- Predicting whether we think that children will get taller with time. Measuring our heights so that we can make comparisons throughout the year. 

PSHE Reinforcing safe learning rules.

R+WV-  Following up our trip to the Church- what did we see?

Music- To create symbols that represent musical sounds and notate them as a graphic score. To feel and internalise the pulse in the context of an action song.

Art- Exploring Harvest and using autumn leaves to create animal pictures.
