Writing

We don’t want to give away any surprises but this week we have a VERY SPECIAL handwriting project.

Alongside dedicated handwriting, we will be doing lots of festive writing and fine motor activities.

If you have any spare Christmas cards (odd ones from previous years), please send them in to enhance our continuous provision for writing.

Reading

We are currently assessing children’s phonics and consequent reading levels. As part of whole class reading, we are sharing winter stories. If your child has a favourite winter picture book, please do send in for us to share (labelled please!)

Maths

Mental/ oral warm-ups:

  • Recall of addition facts within 10
  • Recognise and write numbers to 20
  • Recall of 1 more and 1 less within 20

Main learning

This week our maths learning is linked with our computing. We will be writing algorithms (clear instructions) to direct each other around grids in our classroom as well as writing algorithms for a computer to understand in Purple Mash.

In our algorithms we will be using the language:
-left and right
-forwards and backwards
-up and down
-half turn
-quarter turn
-full/whole turn
-three quarter turn

One of key learning points that you can support with at home is helping your child to know the difference between left and right.
