Year 2 learning. Term 3, Week 3

Thank you to all of you who attended our Writing information meeting last Friday. It was so well attended. Thank you for squashing into the space. You should have received a link to the slides via last week’s newsletter. This will also be useful information for those of you who were unable to attend. Thank you.

Noticeboard

  • Please alert your child’s class teacher if your child finishes one side of their bookmark so that they can receive their first certificate in assembly. You can find information on our reading incentive by clicking here
  • Please make sure your child has a coat in school every day. We will go outside even when it is cold and raining.
  • Children need to bring their book bag into school every day. Please make sure the reading books come into school each day with your child

Daily Well Being Activities

Monday – Connect – Play a scavenger hunt.
Tuesday – Take Notice – Use your senses when you go outside. What can you see, hear, feel, taste and smell?
Wednesday – Be Active – Space facts workout
Thursday – Keep Learning – Characteristics colouring
Friday – Give – Have a clear out and give unwanted toys or clothes to charity (at home)

English

Phonics and Spelling Sessions
Adding the suffixes – ed and -ing without changing the root word
Adding the suffix -ed, removing e from end of word
Adding the suffix -ing, removing e from end of word
2x sessions – Revising phonics that have been identified from assessments

Reading
Non- Fiction texts and journals – Fact finding about famous astronauts
Fact finding and research about Rovers and Lunar buggies
Knowing how to efficiently find out information from a non-fiction text – Use of Index, Contents page and Glossary

Writing
Information gathering –  comparing Mae Jemison and Tim Peake
Information finding and Research – Making notes using bullet points and spider charts
Make notes from a video
Record a series of key facts to present to rest of class
Handwriting – Joining letters correctly using the follow out strokes.
