Writing
Class text: The great race

The learning this week will be based around Chinese New Year. The children will learn about how this differs to New Years Eve celebrated on 31st December and discover new cultural traditions. The writing will be based on the zodiac legend ‘The great race’ which depicts how each zodiac was named after a different animal. After sequencing the story, the children will work in small groups to retell the story in different ways. As the emperor is looking for one more animal to join the race, the children will need to come up with their own animal to participate. The children will consider the challenges their animal might face and be ready to explain to the emperor why they did not come first.
