Year 2 Learning. Term 5, Week 5

Thank you to all who made it to our after school food event last week. We hope you enjoyed the food we made during our workshops.

Wednesday 15th May – Governor day. We will be welcoming governors into our school for governors to see a snapshot of our school in action, to soak up the ethos and see some curriculum subjects in action. Governors will be in the playground between 3:15 and 3:30 to speak to parents, so please do approach them and talk to them.

On Friday afternoon we will be joining the Junior school for the visit of Andy Day as part of his author visit.

May Fair -Saturday 18th May – Gates open at 2pm
Maypole Dancing on Infant playground – 2:30pm – Meet in Sunflower room 2:10pm
Choir Performance – On front of school steps – 3pm – Meet in Sunflower room 2:40pm
(Maypole dancers will join the choir if they are in both as soon as the dancing is over)

Each class is collecting ‘Jolly Jars’ for this event also. There are posters on the class windows. Fill empty jam jars with small goodies that can then be won by children on a stall. There is a small prize for the class in the school that collects the most! Bring them into class as soon as they are completed.

Spelling:
1.Teach words ending in en and -tion
2 Teach words ending in /ʒ/ spelt s
3 Review creating plurals of words
Read and then spell the following words: everybody most eye who sure station
Writing:
Using an image to stimulate a story (See Above)
Create our own blurb for own version of the story.
Write a 5 point plan for the story.
Write your story using ideas and language from Tin Forest book and other class texts.
Handwriting – Using all joins taught. Remind that Capitals are never joined.


Reading:
Complete various reading tasks about Spring, including following written instructions and comprehension tasks.
Respond to written comprehension questions in response to short texts. Write or verbalise responses to be recorded.

Fractions Unit Assessments – Completion of Fractions unit of work. Looking at objectives taught this term.
Time
To recognise clocks showing O’clock and half past times.
To recognise clocks showing Quarter past and quarter to.
To tell the time past the hour.

PE and SHINE – Coordination – sending and receiving, Agility – reaction/response
– Maypole Dancing
Computing – Online Safety – To give examples of how technology can be used to communicate with others they don’t know and explain why this might be risky.
– Presenting ideas as part of a quiz – Make up a quiz about a shared story.
R&WV – The Christian Church – Look at special objects and symbolism within the church.
PSHE – Trust and Appreciation
Geography – Contrasting Places, UK and Colombia – Physical Features comparisons
Science – Look at how plants have inspired different inventions.
Review and record growth of class investigation (week 3). Take measurements of any growth. Continue to water and look after plants and keeping plants in conditions set by the experiment.
