Reception News – Term 4, Week 2

This week, we have been focusing on the story ‘Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain’ by Verna Aardema. The children have enjoyed reading the story, ordering the pictures and writing about the story. The children loved using the musical instruments to make music and write a musical score to match.

During phonics the children have continued to recap the known digraphs and trigraphs. They have been writing words and sentences on whiteboards daily during their phonics sessions. We have learnt the new tricky words have, like and do. We loved seeing all of the children’s outfits on World Book Day and made sure we spent a lot of time reading and sharing stories with the children. The children loved choosing a book to take home from the ‘Great Book Swap’, so thank you for all of the kind donations of books.

In maths this week, we have been continuing number of the day 16-20. The children have loved thinking in depth about each number and making posters for the classroom walls. The children have really enjoyed writing number sentences on whiteboards and using the concrete resources during their planning time.

Thank you to all of the parents who came to parents evening, we enjoyed celebrating your child’s progress with you.

On Friday 13th March 2020, it is Sports Relief. We have got some fun activities planned for the day at school such as whole school aerobics in the playground so we are hoping for good weather! For these activities, please ensure children come into school dressed in sportswear. Please also bring a donation.
