Term 2, Week 6

Welcome to week 6 of term 2! The children are all very excited we have now hit the Christmas month and could not be more enthusiastic to share all the exciting Christmas activities going on at home. This week we have been getting into the Christmas spirit by making some fantastic cards and making a start on our Christmas calendars. We are looking forward to sending them home for you to enjoy. We have learnt the new phonemes x, y and z (zz) and we are all doing an amazing job with our blending, thank you for incorporating reading into your daily routine at home! We have also been finding out about 2d shapes and looking for them in our classroom.

I also want to add what a fantastic job everyone has done with learning the nativity songs in school. We think you will love our on-line nativity carols this year and are super excited to share it with you!

We have also been busy writing a whole class letter to Santa. We then did some amazing independent letters to Santa that we would love to share with you.

This week we are continuing to work on our Christmas arts and crafts and we will also be doing assessments of what we learnt so far. We will introduce our new ELLI animal ‘spider’ and how it helps us to make connections in our learning. This week our book will be ‘Spinderella’ by Julia Donaldson. Have a great week everyone!

PSHE

This week, as well as continuing to support children’s wellbeing through the excitement and tiredness, we will be talking about what to do if someone is unkind. We will be teaching the children to say, ‘Please don’t do that, I don’t like it’ when someone does or says something to them that they don’t like. We will also explain to the children if they hear those words they have to stop. We are a “telling” school where children are encouraged to tell adults if they experience unkindness towards themselves or others.

Communication and Language

We continue to support development in this area by talking to the children about what they are doing, encouraging them to listen and to take turns in conversation. When watching something or reading stories we will ask questions to check that the children are actively listening and understand what is happening in the program or story. We will be reading and talking about  the story ‘Spinderella’ by Julia Donaldson. You can watch the story being read here.

Spinderella by Julia Donaldson

We will play games like I Spy,  silly sentences ( where all the words begin with the same sound) and robot talking t( breaking the words down into individual phonemes eg  r…e…d…  instead of red ) to encourage your child to listen to the phonemes in words.

Physical
