Reception – Term 3, Week 2

Noticeboard:

  • If your child completes one of the sides of their bookmark, please alert your child’s class teacher.
  • Children need to bring their book bag into school every day. If they do not have it on a Monday, they will not be able to have a new reading book.
  • We would like you to support your child to hold their pencil correctly when they are using them at home. Children should be using a tripod grip. Click here to see a BBC Bitesize video about how to hold a pencil.
  • Please do not allow your child to play with the resources that are on the Reception patio in the morning. These have been carefully positioned and are there to support your child’s learning during the school day.

Celebrations

This week has been a short week at school. The children have enjoyed starting to learn about our new topic, ‘Where I live’. They have been playing in their new role play areas (Buttercup – Police station. Daisy and Daffodil – Vets). The children loved looking at maps and they loved spotting places in Bristol that they knew e.g. the Downs, the Suspension Bridge, Cabot Tower and even Henleaze Infant School!

We’ve had two very exciting visitors who support the community come to talk to us. We had a fitness instructor who is also a wedding florist. She talked to us about why it is important to keep fit and how you feel after exercise. We also heard about how she makes flowers for weddings and wreaths at Christmas time.

We also had a firefighter called Dave from Avon and Somerset Fire Service. He told us about his job and the things he does to help the local community. Dave showed us all of his protective clothes and Mrs Thoburn was also allowed to try it on! He left us with a box of toys and role play resources that we will share between the classes over the next couple of weeks.

Tapestry – Observation request

The focus this week is Religion and Worldviews. This week, the children will be learning about places that are special to people. We would like you to send in a photo of a local place that is special to your child e.g. their favourite park, somewhere where they have fond memories, a place of worship, or a special shop they go to.

You can also send us any moments that you feel are significant in your child’s learning or want to share with your child’s class teachers.

Active travel initiative

Miss Aviss and the eco-committee are very excited to inform you of the ‘official’ launch date for our active travel initiative for 2023. As a school, we want to be really mindful of how we travel to and from school; protecting our environment through reduced vehicle emissions and increasing physical activity to further benefit health.

Our official launch date is Friday 13th January 2023. On this day we would LOVE to see as many children as possible walk, scoot or cycle to school, come rain or shine! If you live further away, please feel free to park at least 5 minutes away and walk, scoot or cycle the remainder of your journey. Any child who participates in our active travel launch will receive a badge on the day!

We would love for you to continue your start to an active 2023 by trying to travel to school in an active fashion for the entirety of the week beginning 16th January 2023 for our Active Travel Week. The children will receive a sticker for each day that they participate in our active travel week and if they manage to collect 5 stickers, they will receive a certificate in our celebration assembly on Friday 20th January.

If you have any questions please contact Miss Aviss via the Office.
