Year 1 Learning. Term 6, Week 2

We are looking forward to receiving our baby caterpillars this week into our classrooms. They will help with our ongoing investigation into looking at the lifecycle of a butterfly. We’ll keep you posted!

Noticeboard

  • This week we will be carrying out our Phonics Screening Check. This will just take part during normal lesson times and will feel like a normal activity that the children are already used to doing with their teachers. Please look back at last week’s blog for more information.
  • Here is a link to Bristol’s Festival of Nature. There are lots of events happening throughout the next few weeks. Check it out….

Wednesday 21st June – Children find out their new class teacher/s and have a story with them in their current rooms

Thursday 22nd June – Sports day 1:30 pm – 3:15pm

Wednesday 28th June – Children go to their new classroom with their new teacher

Friday 30th June – Learning Shares in classrooms 9:10 – 9:45am

Wednesday 12th July – School reports to go home

Friday 21st July – Last day of school

  • You will find below a grid showing the sessions to be taught each week. 
  • Please make sure that PE are in school on the children’s pegs. There were lots of times last term that some children did not have them on their pegs. Could you also please make sure children have a change of shoes suitable for PE in their PE kits as most of our PE will be outside this term. Thank you.

Children will write in these sounds and keywords – Differentiated where necessary. Please use the books for the children to practice in.

Writing – ‘Pig the Pug’ By Aaron Blabey
Session 1 Share the story of   ‘Pig the Pug’ – Discuss what has been written with peers and teachers – Questions. Role on the wall for Pig (Shared Write)

Session 3 Research own Pet – Give a name and a problem

Whole Class Read: ‘Animals All Around Us’ Link to Science themes for this term.

  • Read as part of a group. Look at front cover details and explore making predictions, using phonetic knowledge to decode unknown words and to extend vocabulary. Read aloud and look at increasing fluency and use discussion as a group to discuss comprehension and answer written questions.
  • In reading groups, continue to continue on phonic and CEW recognition gaps identified.
