Wednesday : Story with new teacher.

Thursday : Sports Afternoon, 1:30pm. Parents Welcome

Sports Day will be taking place on the junior school field. Please can you ensure that your child has a PE kit (white t-shirt and shorts/ leggings) in school and appropriate sports footwear. They must also have a sun hat and be wearing all-day sun cream. The events will begin at 1:30pm and we will aim to finish by 3:15pm (after the parents race!).

  • You will find below a grid showing the sessions to be taught each week. They mostly follow the exact days, although will differ slightly class to class as when we have our PE slots.
  • Could you please make sure children have a change of shoes suitable for PE in their PE kits as most of our PE will be outside this term. Thank you.

Reading: Focus:  Non- Fiction – Looking After My Pet

  • Read as part of a group. Look at front cover details and explore making predictions, using phonetic knowledge to decode unknown words and to extend vocabulary. Read aloud and look at increasing fluency and use discussion as a group to discuss comprehension and answer written questions.
  • In reading groups, continue to continue on phonic and CEW recognition gaps identified.
  • Reading independent activities linked to whole class read and animal classification.

Learning Objectives: 
To describe the volume in a container by using the vocabulary full, nearly full, empty or nearly empty. 
To use non-standard measurements to measure the capacity of a container
To use ‘more’, ‘less’ and ‘equal to’ to compare capacity and/or volume as well as the symbols <, > and =.
To use solve reasoning problems involving capacity and volume.

Key difficulty points:
Children don’t need to be able to explain this difference but for adults to ensure they are using correct Terminology:
Capacity is the amount of space inside a container (the amount it can hold)
Volume is the amount of space that is being taken up within the container (e.g. it could be half full)

Science – Complete a TAPS experiment. ‘Cupcake Parachutes’ – Record findings and observations. How are we using our scientific enquiry skills from the year. Check in with Caterpillars stage and record this week’s findings in diaries.

DT – Making wooden photo frames – Measuring, marking and sawing  wood (Bluebell Class)

Computing – Spreadsheets – Introduce vocab – cell, row, column
Model how to change the colour of each cell – use this to draw/colour an array.
Model how to type numbers into cells to write a repeated addition number sentence to go with their array. (Cherry Class)

Music – Introduce animal symbols to represent note values.
To recognise, play and compose simple rhythm patterns with the aid of animal note value cards.
