Year 1 Learning Week 2 Term 2

Year 1 will be going on a walk around Henleaze in week 3 to look at the buildings and study the local area, as well as looking for human and physical features. We will be looking for parent helpers to support with this so please get in touch via the class emails if you are able to help on Monday 13th November (see class timings below).

Henleaze Christmas Fayre – Wednesday 6th December – This will be after school where members of the school Choir will perform to open the event. More details to follow to the choir members.
Henleaze Infants Christmas Carol Service – Thursday 7th December – St Peter’s Church – 2pm – All Welcome!

English 

Phonics: New Phase Teaching – Phase 5

Phonics /spelling  Daily (5x sessions) 
New graphemes: oi, ir, ue (glue and clue).
Please help your children to read these and practise spelling them in their red sounds book.

Writing

Send for a Superhero – The children will be learning a new story: Send for a superhero by Michael Rosen. We will be doing some work around conjunctions (joining words such as ‘and’ and ‘because’) and using them as well as adjectives in simple letter writing.

Handwriting: Correctly forming graphemes and common exception words using the 4 formation families.

Reading

Please continue to read regularly at home, marking on your child’s bookmark and writing a short comment in their yellow reading records. Children are beginning to achieve Bronze ‘Read for the Stars’ awards for their commitment to reading at home. Well done.

Maths   

This week we will be revising our number bonds to 10 and  learning how to work systematically to find all the number bonds to 10. This week will also include assessment of our addition and subtraction block in math.

Wider Curriculum

SHINE PE

PE- Real Dance- to respond to different music to create a repeatable sequence using a variety of shapes and transitions

Science- This week, we are beginning our weather watch study. We will use our weather symbols to track the weather every day. 

PSHE How am I similar to the people in my class?

R+WV-  How is Diwali celebrated?

Music- To understand rondo form and to create a class composition based on this structure.

Geography- Exploring using a key when creating a map. 

Art- Using our homemade printing device to make a firework picture.
