Thank you for attending the parent evenings last week. It was so lovely to be able to welcome you into our classrooms once again to discuss the progress of your children. They worked so hard in the first term of Year 2 and we are looking forward to another fantastic Term!

We would like to invite you to a coffee morning here at the Junior School on Thursday 23rd November 9-9:45am. We would like to apologise for the change of date: we had originally scheduled this for Tuesday 7th November but have realised that the communication didn’t make it to everyone – and we want to be as inclusive as possible, which is one of our core school values.

Tuesday – Take Notice – Watch an autumn story eg After the storm
Wednesday – Be Active – Physical challenge – eg How many star jumps can you do in 10 seconds?
Thursday – Keep Learning – Choose someone different to play with today and tell us about it later
Friday – Give – Create a class thankfulness tree to add to (can be twigs in a jar)

Reading
Whole Class Reading – From Phase 5, read together a range of non-fiction texts, noting the use of an index, glossary and contents page.
In a group, listen to, read and discuss and express views about non- fiction at a level beyond that at which they can read independently. Discuss the structure and layout of a non-fiction text and what makes them different to a fiction text.

Writing Text: Dear Teacher, By Amy Husband
Write a letter using creative excuses to your teacher for why you can’t come to school for a day!
Use progressive forms of verbs and exclamatory sentences to make personal comments.
Use subordinating and coordinating conjunctions to join information.
Understand and use noun phrases.

To find the missing number in a calculation by using ten frames and counters.

PE – Dynamic Balance and Agility – Session 2
SHINE PE
– Team Games, exploring balance and working as part of a team

Computing – The first session of our coding unit. What is coding and learning some of the connected terminology. Follow unit on Purple Mash. There will also be our termly session on Internet Safety.
R+WV – Look at the celebration and festival of marriage from a range of faiths. Look at the similarities and differences.
Science – Which ball is the bounciest? Look at a range of balls. As a class decide which may be the best way to test which is the bounciest. Make predictions and record the results before making conclusions.
PSHE – To start to understand that sometimes people make assumptions about boys and girls (stereotypes) understand some ways in which boys and girls are different and accept that this is OK.
Music – To use voices creatively and expressively when singing songs. To understand the importance of warming up voices and adopting good posture. To sing songs and melodies musically, pitching high and low notes moving in steps or leaps. To have an understanding of singing with a variety of dynamics.
