Reception – Term 3, Week 4

Noticeboard

  • Please click here to see the blog post with photos from our walk on Tuesday.
  • Every child needs to bring their book, book bag and reading record into school everyday
  • Click here to find out about our whole school reading incentive called Read for the Stars.
  • Phonics and letter formation – We are really pleased to be able to share this document with you (click here). The document shows you the Phase 2 phonemes with a description of the corresponding action, the correct letter formation and the image children that will associate with the phoneme. The children have been learning these phonemes in their Phonics lessons, so should already be familiar with them. Please use this document to support your child’s letter formation and use the ‘script’ that we use in school to ensure consistency.
  • This term, we are inviting parents to contribute to their child’s learning diary. Each week, we will request an observation. Please read the weekly learning to find out which area of learning we would like you to contribute to. Click here to see the Parents Guide from Evidence Me.
  • When using the Bug Club books, please remember to click the ‘X’ to close the book when your child has read it, otherwise teachers cannot see that it has been read.
  • Please remember to read the phonetically decodable reading book with your child everyday. Reading the same book daily for several days helps to develop fluency and embed phonic knowledge and skills. Please write a positive comment about your child’s reading in their log book everyday. You can click here to access the blog post about reading at Henleaze Infant School and click here to view some of the FAQ’s. Please remember to return your child’s books every Monday as they will swap them for new ones on Mondays.

Celebrations

Congratulations to the children who have completed the first side of their ‘Read for the Stars’ bookmark this week. These children will receive their certificates next week during assembly. Click here to find out about our whole school reading incentive called Read for the Stars.

On Monday, all of the Reception classes went onto the Junior School field to look for signs of winter. They spotted frost, bare trees, birds nests, frosty cobwebs.. and much more!

On Tuesday, we went on a walk around the local area to look at significant places in the school’s local community. Please click here to see the blog post with photos from our walk. The children loved using the iPads to take photos.

The children have impressed us with their knowledge of number bonds to 5 and their writing this week, which was a recount of the walk. They also enjoyed painting pictures of landscapes.

Evidence Me – Observation Request

This week, please use the phonics grid in your child’s bag to practise all of the phonemes that we have taught. We would like you to send in a photo or video of your child doing this. If your child has misplaced the grid, you can click here to print it again. We suggest using this gird before reading with your child every day.

Please click here to view the Evidence Me parents guide.

Word of the week: Rhythm

Physical Development

We will be improving our dynamic balance by walking forwards and backwards with heels to bottoms or knees high. In Write Dance we will be focusing on two hand circular movements.

Literacy

We have now learnt all of the Phase 2 and 3 phonemes. We have put together a phonics grid with all the phonemes we have learnt. Please print a copy of the grid to revisit these with your child to help embed their learning. Click here to access it. We suggest doing this alongside their daily reading.

This week we will be mastering previously learnt phonemes. This week we will focus on j, v, w, x.

Please support your child at home to practise the letter formation of s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, e, u, r, h, b, f, l  j, v, w, x,y ,z, q. Please click here to see the correct letter formation and ‘script’ we use in school to support children to form their letters. This will ensure consistency between home and school.

This week we will continue to read with your child either 1:1 or in a small guided reading session. Please continue to read with your child every day to improve their fluency with a text. Ask your child questions about the characters, what they think might happen next and discuss/ explain what they think is happening in the pictures.

Writing – This week we will be writing a list of places in our community e.g. church, shop, park, café.

This week, we will be thinking about what a community is and which communities we belong to.

Religion and Worldviews

Continuing our unit “Why are some times special?”, we will be thinking about objects we use in celebrations or special times. For example; decorations, cards, clothes, prayer mat, wedding rings, hanukkiah, divas.

Expressive Arts and Design

This week we will be continuing to learn about different rhythm patterns and listen to and identify instrumental timbres (sounds) of non-European music. Rhythm is also our word of the week!
