We’ve had a fantastic week of learning and opportunities in year 1. We have been focusing on the season of autumn this week, talking about the changes in weather, colours and nature and Seasons and celebrations that we celebrate over the autumn period. In our PSHE learning we have thought about and discussed choices and consequences and how we can work best as a team, referring back to our five school rules and have come up with sensible and kind suggestions of how we can support one another to make good choices and keep our school and classrooms happy and safe places. In RE, we await our St Peters church visit coming up next week in anticipation! and have come up with some questions about the church we hope to gain answers to over course of our visit.
This week we have based our English learning around the book ‘lost and found’ by Oliver Jeffers (closely linked to our PSHE style learning around the book ‘Beegu’) using the book as a ‘hook’ into descriptive writing, writing questions the use of adjectives and nouns and instructional writing into our books. Our sound of the week in phonics learning this week is ‘ee’ in ‘Bee’ and we have been looking at the alternative ways of writing this sound including ‘ey’ in key, ‘ea’ in leaf, ‘y’ in cherry and ‘e_e’ in centipede. In Maths this week we have been looking at the many ways we can represent numbers and methods in which we can use to aid us in the completion of addition and subtraction number sentences. We have looked at practical, pictorial and mental ways of doing this and have worked super hard in learning new ways to do so!
