Important Dates for the start of Term 1 :
Tuesday 12th September – Welcome to Year 2 meeting and reminders about supporting reading and phonics with your child at home. 2:50pm in your child’s classroom.

Wednesday 13th September – Year 2 WOW Day – Children are invited to dress up using the theme ‘Knights and Castles’. There will be lots of different activities planned to help kick off the topic for the term.

Monday 9th October – School closed to children – INSET day

Wednesday 11th October – Individual School Photos

Friday 20th October – End of Term 1. No uniform day. Contributions to FHIS.

Monday 30th October – First Day of Term 2

Message from Mrs Hibbard: Summer Reading Challenge:
If you completed the Bristol Libraries Summer Reading Challenge over the Summer, please bring in your medal (named) on Friday 8th September so that we can celebrate your summer reading achievements.  And don’t forget that we also set a Summer challenge, ‘Get Caught Summer Reading’ challenge for all children. Please bring in a photo of you enjoying reading with anything, or anywhere that feels like summer to you!

Writing Composition
Write a postcard asking some ‘curious cat’ questions about Year 2 and our topic. Share verbally first.
Handwriting Using squared paper to think carefully about where our letters start and finish.
Write our key words and word of the week thinking carefully about correct formation.
Correctly form number digits.
Reading Read individually this week or next week and receive reading books and log books to take home.

Maths   


Consolidation of numbers to 20.
Count objects to 100 by making 10s.
Correctly form digits.
Partition numbers to 100.
Maths games and activities inside and outside. 

Wider Curriculum

PE- SHINE Outside Session

PSHE – New Beginnings
Introduce Year 2 Routines
Introduction to outside provision and expectations.
Establish class rules and create an agreed classs charter together.
Circle Time – Spider – Work as a class to create connections between Year 1 and Year 2.

Exploring the ELLI animals

Art – Creative Unicorn – Use a variety of media to create a picture of their own choosing.

         Chameleon – Exploration of colour mixing

D&T – Busy Bees -Working in teams and in new groups during class and SHINE time

Curious Cats – Explore the inside and outside environments to access resources independently. Write a postcard with questions.
