Monday 9th October – School Closed to Pupils – INSET Day
Wednesday 11th October – Individual School Photos
Tuesday 17th October – 9:00am – Phonics Learn-A-Long in classes. More details to follow in Newsletter.
Wednesday 18th October – Trip to Caldicot Castle. Make sure you have completed the online (via email) permission and payment for the trip. Email your class email if you are able to help on the trip (Maple class still has a space!)
Friday 20th October – End of Term 1. No uniform day with contributions to FHIS
Monday 30th October – First Day of Term 2
Tuesday 31st October and Thursday 2nd November – Parents Evenings. Look out for login details to book your appointment slot. These will be face to face in your child’s classroom. You should arrive at least 10 mins early to look at your child’s work ahead of your meeting time.

English

Writing – Class Text – ‘The Egg’, By M P Robertson
Session 1:
After starting to read our new class text, make predictions of what will happen next taking clues from what has been said and shown in the illustrations.
Session 2: To use coordinating conjunctions in a letter. Write it as if you are the dragon from the story, writing to George,
Session 3: Use expanded noun phrases to describe a cave as a setting for a story using images as a stimulus.
Session 4: Research the different kinds of jobs (occupations) available at a mediaeval castle. Write a job advert explaining the most important parts of the job chosen.

Reading
We will be assessing their phonics and CEW recall over the next 2 weeks. In the final week of term we shall also assess the spelling of the year 1 expected list of words.

Daily count
Flashback 4 each day.
Children to record on whiteboards.
Learning Objectives: 
To show my understanding of number bonds to 10 using a range of manipulatives and representations.
To use a bead string to make addition and subtraction fact families within 20.
To make number bonds to 100 using my knowledge of number bonds to 10. 
To show my understanding of number bonds to 100 (in tens) using dienes and rekenreks.
To add and subtract 1s using a number line. 

Wider Curriculum

PE – To balance on one leg with control and stability.
SHINE PE –
Working within a small group together.

R+WV – learn how the birth of a baby might be celebrated by Christians believers.
Computing – To be introduced to making music digitally and to explore, edit and combine sounds. Children will use their Purple Mash log in and will bring these home, stuck into the front of their reading home log books so that they can be accessed from home.
Music – To discriminate between differences in dynamics and pitch. This will also be linked and tied into our computing this week.
PSHE – To listen to other people and contribute my own ideas about rewards and consequences. To help make my class a safe and fair place.
Science – Research Macintosh and then testing for waterproofness of various materials. How can we make sure it is a fair test?
