Reception – Term 2, Week 3

Noticeboard

  • Our Reception Christmas play will be on Wednesday 6th December 2023 at 9:30am. 
  • Please make sure your child has a coat in school every day. We will go outside even when it is cold and raining.
  • Children need to bring their book bag into school every day. If they do not have it on a Monday, they will not be able to have a new reading book. Please make sure the reading books come into school each day with your child. 
  • Your child will have come home with a Read for the Stars bookmark. You can find information on our reading incentive by clicking here
  • Please do not allow your child to play with the resources that are on the Reception patio in the morning. These have been carefully positioned and are there to support your child’s learning during the school day.

Celebrations

This week the children have loved learning about the festival Diwali. Thank you so much to Miloni’s mum who came in on Friday to talk to us all about the celebration. We loved learning about how your family celebrates. We also made diva lamps and Rangoli patterns. 

Tapestry – Observation request

The focus this week is PE. 

Please send in an observation of your child doing a physically activity which they enjoy – this could be running, playing football, swimming, skipping, or anything else!

This week’s learning

This week, we are going to be learning about the ELLI cat.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

This week is Friendship week so we are having a focus on a recipe for a good friend. 

Communication and Language 

We will continue to share our All About Me Box.

We will be listening to and learning the songs and story for our Nativity play.

Word of the week: digraph (two written letters which correspond to one sound eg ‘ch’)

Physical Development

In write dance this week we are focusing on square movements and using 

Literacy

This week in Phonics, we will be learning the graphemes/ phonemes: ch, sh, th, ng

And the common exception words: he, she

We will practise blending phonemes to read, and segmenting words to spell them using the phonemes and graphemes we have learned so far.

Writing:  We will have our first Drawing Club writing session. Children are invited to draw a picture on the theme of ‘Autumn’ and then add labels or a short caption using the phonics we have been learning so far.

Maths

This week, the children will learn about 1 more and 1 less within 5. Alongside this, they will also learn about the composition of numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. 

Understanding the World 

This week we are learning about the ELLI animal the Curious Cat. So we need to discover facts about cats! If you have a cat at home please could you send a photo to our class email with the name of your cat, what type of cat it is and how old your cat is. Thank you!

Religion and Worldviews

This week, we will begin to talk about the Christian Bible story of the birth of Jesus as we start to learn songs and put our Nativity performance together.

Expressive Arts and Design

We will be painting pictures of cats!
