Noticeboard

  • Please alert your child’s class teacher if your child finishes one side of their bookmark so that they can receive their first certificate in assembly. You can find information on our reading incentive by clicking here
  • Please make sure your child has a coat in school every day. We will go outside even when it is cold and raining.
  • Children need to bring their book bag into school every day. If they do not have it on a Monday, they will not be able to have a new reading book. Please make sure the reading books come into school each day with your child.
  • Please do not allow your child to play with the resources that are on the Reception patio in the morning. These have been carefully positioned and are there to support your child’s learning during the school day.

Celebrations

Over the past 2 terms, the Reception children from Claremont Special School have been coming to our Reception patio to play with the Henleaze Infant School children. This week, we went to their school twice! First to sing our charismas songs to them and then to watch their Christmas play.

The focus this week is Communication and Language.

Please send us a photo/photos of what you do over the Christmas holidays. We will look at them when we are back at school and will ask the children to tell the class about what they have been doing during their two weeks off.

You can also send us any moments that you feel are significant in your child’s learning or want to share with your child’s class teachers.

This week’s learning

For Term 3, our topic will be ‘Where I live’. During this topic we will be inviting members of the community to talk to the children about the role they play. We will be using a few key texts over the term, starting with Henry’s Map by David Elliot.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We will be starting our new topic of dreams and goals. This weeks focus will be on persevering even when we face challenges. We will be reading the story Mae among the Star to support this.

Communication and Language

Word of the week: community

Our key text will be Henry’s Map. We will be supporting children in their communication skills by asking questions about the book, and encouraging them to be curious and ask questions of their own.

Literacy

As we reconnect with our phonics sessions after the break, we will be revisiting some of the letters and sounds which our assessment has shown need some additional practice.

Our writing for these 2 days will be during our Phonics sessions, and using the graphics resources available during play inside and outside.

Maths

This week and next week, we will be learning about capacity and measure. We will start by comparing mass.

Understanding the World

We will be comparing the past and present in history supported by the book Dogger by Shirley Hughes. We will be using the text to discuss toys from the past and comparing them with toys now.

Expressive Arts and Design

We will be starting our music syllabus this term beginning with listening to music from around the world. We will be reading the story Handa’s Surprise and listening to music from Kenya, hearing the rhythm and beats and identifying different patterns we can hear.
