Term 4, week 4

We have had a great, if exhausting, first week back at school. It has been lovely to see how quickly the children have settled into their classes; enjoying playing with their friends and remembering  the familiar routines of the school day.

Noticeboard

  • Next Friday is Red Nose Day. We are inviting you to dress up in something red and to bring a donation to support this cause.
  • Please remember that children need to have a sweatshirt, cardigan or fleece to wear indoors plus a warm waterproof coat for outdoors every day.
  • Look out for our observation challenge. This week it is in the Understanding the World section of the plans.

This week’s Learning

If you have to self isolate at home but are well  the full plans are available here

PSED

This week we will be finding ways to solve problems and stay friends, including saying sorry and forgiving.

We will continue to do our Daily Wellbeing Activities, and will be making sure that everyone feels happy, secure and settled in school.

Communication and Language

We will be making lolly stick puppets of the animals from Handas Surprise and using them to retell the story.

Physical

Jasmine – Unit 1 lesson 4

Writedance – practising gross and fine motor skills to music

Literacy

Phonics

This week we will be revisiting the phonemes and digraphs we have been learning at home and in school. We will be using these to write words and captions.

We will also be recapping all the phase 2 and 3  tricky words that we have learnt.

Spelling: was, my, you

Reading

Please try to read with your child for 10 minutes every day.

This week we  will be reading with all children either 1:1 or in small groups over the week.

We will continue to give each child one school  book to read at home for the week.

Do not worry if you have already had this book from our online reading scheme over lockdown, rereading  is important in order to become more fluent readers. This will encourage children to blend words in their head and to be able to re-read sentences after blending.

Writing

This week we will be writing about our favourite fruits and describing why we like different types of fruit. We will be relating this to Handa’s Fruit for example, I like Avocado because it is creamy or I like pineapple because it is tangy.

Letter formation: l,t, j,i

Mathematics

This week we will be learning about number bonds to 10 using a variety of different activities to find and record different ways of making 10.

WE will also be collecting data about everyones favourite fruits and recording this information using tally charts, and picturegrams.

Understanding the World

This week we are going to be looking closely at the fruits in Handas basket. Describing their appearance and texture and looking for similarities and differences. We will look at the outside and the inside of the fruits.

Observation Challenge – Normally we would taste the fruits from Handas basket and use them to make fruit salad. This year due to COVID restrictions we cannot do this in the classroom but it would be great if you could try one or more of the fruits at home and make your own fruit salad. We would love to know how you describe the taste of your fruits.

Technology

We will be using ‘2Count’ to make picturegrams about our favourite fruit.

RE

This week we will be looking at the idea of forgiveness and learning about the Christian story of Easter.

Expressive Arts

This week we will be making observational still life drawings of Handas basket of fruit using oil pastels. We will then explore the textures of different fruits through fruit printing.
