Reception News – Term 1 Week 4

Thank you to all of those who attended our EYFS curriculum evening on Tuesday. In Reception this week, we have been learning about another one of the ELLI animals, the chameleon. Chameleons know that they can get better at learning over time. We have been talking to the children about changing their plans. They have been thinking about when something isn’t going the way they planned and how they can change the plan they had made. We introduced the chameleon by reading the story ‘The Mixed Up Chameleon’ by Eric Carle. The children then made chameleons using lots of different media including painting, brusho and collage. We have also learnt lots of facts about them too.

This week in Reception, we have also started to learn phonics (s, a, t). The children have learnt the phonemes and have written the graphemes in their books too. In maths, we have been focusing on sorting. The children have enjoyed sorting in many different ways including by colour and shape.
