Term 5 WK 3

Monday is Bank Holiday and Tuesday school will be closed for the majority of pupils due to Industrial Strike Action..

This week the whole school will have a focus on the Coronation of King Charles III. We will be linking that with the Coronation 70 years ago of the late Queen Elizabeth II and how that time span also correlates to the lifespan of our school.

The children will be working together to create a wall hanging for our hall to depict this moment in history.

Each year group has a different focus. Year 2 will be looking at computing and technology for each of the 7 decades and also at the opening of Henleaze Infant school to present day. We shall also be thinking about the Coronation and finding out more about our new king and how we will be celebrating this as a nation.

Art Competition!

Miss Quinn would love it if as many of you as possible could take part in the NW24 Bristol Monument Competition! Artwork can be a painting, a drawing, a sculpture or a collage.

Closing date for entries: 26th May 2023

Photographs of the entries should be emailed to your class email address.

Celebrations:

Well done to Maple Class for their fantastic space dance performance on Tuesday. Thank you also for the parent participation with the closing dance.

English

Writing:

In English this week we are going to be writing a letter to the King about his coronation. We will be thinking of questions we would like to ask him and other points we would like to make to him. We will also be thinking about what rules we would put into place if we were King or Queen for the day.

Reading:

We will continue to practise our reading comprehension skills in preparation for our Secret Agent Training in Week 4.

The children are really enjoying practising using these special quiz papers.

If you would like to support your child at home with their learning you can practise some ‘Sequencing Suki’ skills with them by asking them these questions when doing their daily reading with them.

Spelling:

This term we will be revising the CEWs we started learning last term to ensure that children are secure in reading and spelling them. You can support your child at home this term by regularly revising these.

Maths

In maths this week we will continue consolidating our understanding of addition and subtraction. We will use many different strategies to answer more complex problems and have a go at some Secret Agent Training!

Knowledge and Understanding of the World (Topic)

Our KUW work this week will be centred around coronation celebrations! As part of our learning we will undertake the following activities:

  • Learn about the life of King Charles and order events on a timeline.
  • Create coronation bunting.
  • Design a new stamp for King Charles and learn about stamps through the ages.
  • Read non-fiction texts about King Charles.
  • Create commemorative keyrings.
  • And much more…
