Year 2 Trip to Caldicot Castle – Wednesday 18th October
Please look out for school comms for information about paying, giving consent and how to offer help as a parent helper on the trip. This will be sent out once final costings are finalised.

Monday – Connect – With a partner write a welcome word on their back with your finger. Can they tell what word you wrote?
Tuesday – Take Notice- Move the pointer on your feelings wheel to show us how you’re feeling

English

WritingKey Text – ‘Tell me a Dragon’ – By Jackie Morris
Session 1: To use the coordinating conjunctions of ‘and’ and ‘but’ to connect 2 sentences.
Session 2: To use adjectives and inspiration from our text to design our own dragon.
Session 3: To use powerful verbs and adverbs.

Session 4 : Handwriting – Continue to introduce new joins and to ensure correct starting positions for letters and numbers.

Reading – Introduction of new reading groups and first sessions of group guided reading.
Whole class reading daily.
Book changing Day : MONDAYS

Maths

Comparison of numbers and language that you can use. (0-100)
Order objects and corresponding numbers using your own chosen criteria.
Count reliably in 2s, 5s and 10s
Introduce Counting in 3s
Recap Bonds to 10 rapid recall.

Science – Identify the properties of different materials. Know about the uses of a variety of materials and how these are chosen for specific uses on the basis of their simple properties.
Geography – Looking at pictures of Castles from around the world – Use a Europe map – Reasoning behind choices. Look for clues – Whole class discussion/Activity and ideas will be collected in class floor book.
Music – To discriminate between changes in pitch, recognising high and low sounds. To use actions to demonstrate pitch.  To explore high and low sounds using voices.
PSHE – Rights and responsibilities – Elect new Class School Council Reps
R+WV – Celebrating life events. Discuss what and how children’s families celebrate life events. Design a celebration card.
