Reception – Term 2, Week 7

Noticeboard

  • Please alert your child’s class teacher if your child finishes one side of their bookmark so that they can receive their first certificate in assembly. You can find information on our reading incentive by clicking here
  • Please make sure your child has a coat in school every day. We will go outside even when it is cold and raining.
  • Children need to bring their book bag into school every day. If they do not have it on a Monday, they will not be able to have a new reading book. Please make sure the reading books come into school each day with your child. 
  • Please do not allow your child to play with the resources that are on the Reception patio in the morning. These have been carefully positioned and are there to support your child’s learning during the school day.

Dates

Wednesday 13th December – Christmas Dinner. There will only be the option of a roast dinner (veggie or meat) – no jacket potato, pasta or wraps. Please provide your child with a packed lunch if they are not going to eat the roast dinner.

Friday 15th December – Christmas Parties and Last Day of Term – Wear your party clothes and/or a Christmas Jumper. Bring in a donation to FHIS. Please remember to bring the party food that you have signed up for.

Thursday, 4th January 2024 – School starts for children

Friday, 12th January, 9am – Parent Information Meeting – Writing – How we and you can support your child with learning to write. This academic year, we as a school are completing a project about improving our writing skills with a concentration on formation and handwriting and spelling. The meeting will start with EYFS and all the way to Year 2 so lots of important information for all parents. There is more information on the back of your child’s calendar that they will be bringing home.  

Celebrations

Of course, the highlight of everybodies week was our Nativity play and carol service. Thank you to those of you that joined us.

The focus this week is Understanding the World.

Next week, we are having our first computing lesson where the children will use iPads to create a picture. Search around your house for different types of technology and send us photos. We will then show these pictures and discuss how technology is used in everyday life.  

You can also send us any moments that you feel are significant in your child’s learning or want to share with your child’s class teachers.

This week’s learning

We will continue to learn about the ELLI Spider. The web-weaving spider makes connections between different things they have been learning. We will be using ‘Spinderella’ as our key text.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

This week we will be discussing the importance of knowing how to stand up for yourself.We will be using role play and puppets to support this. 

Communication and Language 

We will be acting out our key text: Spinderella by Julia Donaldson.

We will continue to share the All About Me Box.

Word of the Week: trigraph (3 letters which together make a single phoneme / sound eg ear as in hear)

Literacy

This week in Phonics, we will be learning the graphemes/ phonemes: air (as in hair), ure (as in pure), er 

And the common exception word: her

We will practise blending phonemes to read, and segmenting words to spell them using the phonemes and graphemes we have learned so far.

For our writing, we will continue writing the inside of Christmas cards, as well as providing opportunities to write in our Christmas Post office role play areas. 

Maths

This week, we will be recapping everything we have learnt so far about numbers 0 to 5, with a special Christmas theme running throughout!

Understanding the World 

We will be exploring Purple Mash on the ipads and creating digital Christmas pictures.

Religion and Worldviews

We will be talking about special things children are looking forward to in the holidays.
